OVERVIEW

Hi I'm Patrick Dennis, a British Economist, who has spent nearly 40 years working as an economist in the City of London and its environs. I was Chief Economist at the Industrial Bank of Japan for 10 years, in charge of country risk at the Fuji Bank, had spells working as the economist for the City of London Corporation and as a statistician for the Government statistical service, and a senior economist for both National Westminster Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland. I studied economics as an undergraduate at Leeds University and as a postgraduate at Corpus Christi College, Oxford University. I am currently working part-time for Oxford Economics,

I have followed and been responsible for UK economic and political developments throughout my career. I am an expert also on European economic integration and taken a very critical and pessimistic tone on Europe over 30 years. I forecast the exact timing of UK's exit from the Exchange rate mechanism in 1992 and forecast that the UK would boom and avoid the inflationary consequences of devaluation. I also have particular expertise on the Middle East, central Asian economies, South Africa, Japan, financial markets and banking analysis.

My blog has been inspired by what I see as  uncertain but also exciting times that we find ourselves in following the BREXIT vote. You will find that I will broadly taking an optimistic tone compared with the consensus, giving equal coverage in my posts to the opportunities that arise from BREXIT and the risks. I will comment on both economic and political developments.

I hope you find the notes I post interesting and thought-provoking. I welcome your comments.
